I’ve been harping on how blogging a book builds platform and, by so doing, helps you get noticed by publishers and agents and sell more books. However, there’s another great outcome that can be achieved by blogging a book—or by simply blogging: you can boost your career and make more money. How? By being perceived as an expert in your field.
Authors notoriously are seen as experts. That’s why it’s often said that a book is the best business card. As soon as you publish a book, you people look at you differently.
The same can be said of a great blog—one that includes expert information on a regular basis. Professionals or people who want to be seen as knowledgeable about their topic are business area need only start a blog and start writing about it regularly. Do so long enough, well enough and frequently enough and you’ll move up in the Google rankings. People will find you. You’ll be come the expert or one of the experts on your subject. Your career will take off and so will your wallet will expand as well if you plan your career or business accordingly.
Why? Because experts make more money. They sell more products (and books) and services. They get paid more for their services.
I know most of you who read this blog are aspiring nonfiction authors or authors. But what do you write about? Or what is your day job? What do you “do” that you could write about and, in the process of becoming a published author increase your expert status, enhance your career and better your income? If you are a business person or a professional, it behooves you to, first, blog and to, second, consider your blog as the basis of a book. This is the easiest and fastest way to get know in your field and to write a book.
Want proof? Here’s a great article from IT World Canada. by Merideth Levinson. Read what some published authors say about the difference having a book made in their business and financial lives. Then consider beginning to blog a book so you become an author and boost your career and your income.
I know my blogs have helped me achieve expert status. The first thing they did was land me speaking engagements and guest blog posting gigs. Now that my blog, How to Blog a Book, landed me a traditional publishing deal with Writer’s Digest (March 2012), I’m also getting more speaking, coaching, and editing work. So, I’ve got proof that both a blog and book help further your career and finances considerably.
So don’t wait another minute. Start blogging today. And while you’re at it, blog a book.
