Funky Language Monday
There is no better way to tackle the topic of funky language than with rap music. Let me loosely define rap as “a tiny bit of history of words with a little bit of pop culture and music mixed in for good measure.” Also referred to as hip hop music or MCing, rap music originated as a peaceful means of “talking about” the social issues facing black people in the 1970s. The hallmark of rap music became rhythmic instrumental beats punctuated by “fast talking in rhyme with a beat.” The words in quotations are my interpretations of rap. You may have different interpretations. Now it’s your turn to define rap music in your own words.
