Like the founders of our nation promised, as a writer you have the right to pursue your happiness–and interests–and you do this via the choices you make. As a a writer, you can make choice about what you write. You can write about what you want. In this day and age, you also can choose to publish your writing, rather than waiting around for someone else to do it for you, if you desire.
Today, Independence Day, I’d like to remind all writers that we are indeed independent. We are free. We have the freedom to pursue the topics and types of writing that make us happy and bring us fulfillment. As Steven D. Woodhull said, “You’ve got a lot of choices. If getting out of bed in the morning is a chore and you’re not smiling on a regular basis, try another choice.” Find something else to write about. Find another way to get your work published. Find another way to get paid for your work.
Happy 4th of July.
