Week #1 – Nuts and bolts of emerging trends
On Monday, we talked about distinguishing between trends and emerging trends. The difference has to do with time. I place limits on emerging trends because of their rapidly changing nature. Trends within the current calendar year count as emerging whereas trends in the previous year are simply trends. Today, your job is to list reasons why you should follow emerging trends.
Creative Idea Gal’s Thoughts
Perhaps the single-most important reason for any writer to follow emerging trends is to make it easier for them to spark some creativity in their writing. There is also the aspect of education, knowledge, and ready-made firelogs for conversation starters. Those are just a few good reasons why I like to stay on top of emerging trends. You may have others!
Tips on How to Spark Creativity in Writing
- Tip #2 – Watch television as you wait in line or run errands
Nowadays, it seems that television is everywhere. I wait in line at WalMart and there are t.v.s. I go to the recreation center for my daughters’ classes and I see the news channel turned on. Televisions are there at every car repair place and even in waiting rooms at doctor’s offices! Basically, t.v.s are everywhere.
It’s not all a bad thing, though. No matter what channel happens to be on while you’re waiting to do something else, I can guarantee that you’ll either be entertained, amused, or informed. You’ll walk away with a good feeling or a new piece of information that may just get those creative juices stirred in the right direction.
Emerging Trends on Twitter
Here is a sampling of yesterday’s emerging trends based on Twitter hashtags:
#declareconf (August 9 conference for Christian women bloggers in Irving, TX)
#Mumma April (April Tucker is the mother of singer Trey Songz)
#framel (Youtube user Framel200 and character on MTV show “Catfish”)
#Drew Storen (Nationals baseball pitcher who made bad moves)
